How do you know what your activity schedule is going to be?
As a two-week camper, you get to make these choices based on preferences and priority. This happens on Opening Day of the session, with activites starting first thing Monday morning after arrival on Sunday! We also have some activity age requirements for a few of our activities - those few being something to look forward to as you return to Skyline each summer.
Our one week, or mini campers, have a pre-determined schedule they participate in alongside their cabinmates! They are accompanied to and from each activity with their counselors and travel together as a cabin. This helps our youngest girls form strong friendships and have the most support for daily to-do’s as they begin learning their independence!
Our activity selection process is facilitated by our cabin and activity counselors and the girls sign-up by age group. Earlier in the day, on Opening Day, the girls are given a sheet of paper with all their activity options, based on their age, at the times of day they are offered for their age or level, in the case of an advanced activity. The sheet has all the options for each of the six daily activity periods. This gives the girls time to contemplate what activities they hope to take, look alongside their friends, and prioritize which activities they want to make sure they do at a certain time versus wanting to do at all!
Later on in the day, the two week girls (one age group at a time) are brought into the gym where we have the activity names hung up along the gym walls with a staff member present. The girls let our staff members know when they are hoping to sign up for that particular activity, and the staff member is able to either sign them up, or let them know when they have open spots remaining for the girls to swap things around if needed.
The girls repeat this process of walking up to each activity sign, waiting in line (as-applicable), and discussing their hopes with the staff member until their schedule is confirmed for the session. This process teaches the girls a lot about prioritization, preferences, and scheduling!
What happens if I try an activity and it isn’t for me? We do allow girls to change up to two activities once after their first day in the activity. For example, if a girl tries ropes course, but feels like she doesn’t love heights after giving it a try, she can swap to other options during that period! Girls can only swap activities once and then are encouraged to see it through for the session.
Check in on our activities by age and daytime activities blogs for more info about the activity choices!
