Skyline's special programs & night time activities!

Something that makes Skyline unique is our night time activities! This is where lots of friendships are made as campers team up together to have fun and be silly. The sessions are broken up by different nighttime activities that are either club competitions, cabin competitions, or entertainment nights like movie and talent night.

On the first day of camp, new campers draw a bead to see what club they will be in for the rest of their camp years! They will either be a Mountie (red), Ranger (blue), or Trooper (green). They will compete with these clubs in competitions throughout the session and also earn points for their club in their activities.

Each session has one full day dedicated to the session theme. Our themes for summer of 2025:

1st session- Music Festival 2nd session- Color Wars 3rd session- 4th of July 4th session- Christmas in July

One of my favorite nighttime activities is candy crush! Candy crush is a cabin competition where campers travel around with their counselor and try to collect pieces of “candy” that have been stolen by oompa loompas. They have to be careful though and make sure they don’t get stopped by any “oompa loompas” that want to steal their candy.

A camp skyline classic and one of my favorites is sock war. This is a giant glorified game of capture the flag. Each club has a different club’s flag hidden in an area around camp and they have to get it back! Though, each camper is armed with socks to tag the opposing clubs with. When they get tagged they run to the basketball court and get counted, then they can continue playing!

With so many campers we have a lot of talent come through, so of course we have to have a talent show! The talent show is open to any age camper that has a talent or skill they want to show! The day before the talent show we screen through the sign ups and music to make sure routines were planned ahead of time and music is skyline appropriate. We always have some pretty cool talents from singing and dancing all the way to soccer ball juggling and pogo stick basketball! We would love to see your daughter perform in a talent show this summer!

The dance is always a camper favorite! We have a local boys camp, camp laney, come over to our tennis courts for some fun music and dancing. The girls get so excited to wear a cute outfit and do some dances they have learned throughout the session like the cotton eyed joe or candy in the sun. This summer’s dance theme for all four sessions is America, so bring your red white and blue!

We have movie night on Saturday, right in the middle of the session which makes for a very fun and relaxing break from club competitions! It’s so fun to watch the girls grab popcorn and sit with their friends on the tennis courts while they watch a Disney classic.

On Sunday night we typically have a counselor hunt. This is a club competition where counselors hide in camo or all black in places around the main part of camp. Campers travel around in groups with their club members to try and find the most counselors. Sometimes we hide fun objects too like club colored frisbees or stuffed animals!

Now, Speed Challenge is the club competition of all club competitions! This is a three way relay between all three clubs and definitely what the clubs are working towards all throughout the session. The girls compete within their club by age group to make the competition as fair as possible. They sign up for the race they will participate in during their club meetings in the morning, and practice during that time as well. We definitely see the most club spirit during this competition. The girls deck out in their club colors, some even paint/ glitter their whole bodies!

On the 2nd to last night, we have Showtime, which is where our gymnastics, cheerleading, dance, flag & Baton, and musical theater classes perform for the whole camp! The girls in these activities work on their routine everyday all throughout the session and it is so fun to watch all of their hard work come to life. It’s so rewarding to see young girls get so excited about their friends’ achievements.

The last night of camp is Banquet. This is a dinner where all the girls sit with their clubs instead of cabins and receive awards from their activity periods. Campers have the opportunity to write a toast to their counselors and read them in front of camp on this night. We recognize campers who have been here for 5+ years, honor campers, honor cabin, honor counselors, and then the three cups! The point cup, horse show cup, and Eloise H. Temple Spirit cups are highly sought after by the clubs and definitely the most exciting part of the night. After the banquet we make our way down to the river bank where we have “vespers”. This is when the clubs sing their slow song, age outs read their speeches, and Sally closes out our session theme at one final campfire!

As night time Director I also get to run our special programs! We have a carnival every Sunday at camp right after rest hour. Our carnival consists of inflatable obstacle courses, water slides, bowling, beach volleyball, face painting, pickleball, karaoke, the blob and so much more! Sunday dinner is always a picnic and then we go straight into the counselor hunt! I love this opportunity to be creative and create new games and activities for the girls throughout the year! Each summer is better than the last and I love playing a role in making camp more fun everyday.
