Recharge re-cap!!
One of my favorite weekends of the year is the first of January when we host all of the counselors that worked the previous summer! This weekend is an opportunity for them to come relax and fill their minds with good before the new school semester.
On friday night after everyone arrived we had some of Mrs Donna’s delicious potato soup and grilled cheese to warm us up from the cold. Followed by an amazing short sermon from Dave Latham reminding us it’s not who we are, it’s whose we are!
Saturday morning after breakfast we had a yoga class with a local yoga instructor! Yoga with Courtney was so relaxing and the perfect “wake up” time. After that is my personal favorite, self defence and life skills. In these classes the girls got to learn how to defend themselves, change tires, and laugh and have fun while doing it!
In between lunch and some more fun activities, the girls got to hear from our chaplain Ella Walker and Skyline Alum Amy Bufkin! Ella gave great insight on mental health and anxiety in college and answered counselors questions. The counselors got to do a fun craft recognizing their own positive traits, and taught them that when they focus on what the world says about them they lose sight of who they truly are.
Also on Saturday the girls got to decorate their own recharge ornament, thanks to Elizabeth Lueck and her Have a ball ornament company! This was so fun to watch the girls be creative and start a new tradition.
One of my favorite parts of the weekend was when we had all of the counselors over to Sally’s house for hot chocolate and movies next to the fire! This was the perfect end to an action packed day of travelling around camp in the cold! The room was buzzing with excitement and conversation as girls talked about the summer ahead and reminisced on summer ‘24 over Sally’s famous ice cream.
