Jesselyn Ray Ebanks lives in Texas and is a Skyline Mountie Alumnae. Her two girls now come to Skyline and are considered GRANDCAMPERS. To be a Grandcamper your mom or grandmom must have been a Skyline camper. We have around 170 grandcampers this summer. Read more about Jesselyn’s time at Skyline and the memories she has passed on to her daughers, Eleanor and Everil.
What makes Skyline special to you?
I have enjoyable memories of camp as a child. I’m a social person and I loved all of it. I liked that it was an all girls camp. I also enjoyed being outside so it was a great fit.
What is your favorite camp memory?
I learned how to ride horses. I will always remember getting my first place ribbon in English horseback riding. I also learned how to canoe. I remember the all day canoe trip we took past Camp Laney. Anytime someone found the horseshoe it was such a big deal. I remember the excitement and being a Mountie. I still remember the songs!
What life skills did you learn at camp?
I learned that girls can be strong, independent and capable. Camp Skyline helped me with my self-confidence as a youth.
How has Skyline’s mission statement, “Enriching young girls in God, relationships and self”, impacted your life?
As an adult I became a counselor who works with children and adolescents. When we lived in Alaska, I was able to engage youth in some wilderness or nature therapy. I have no doubt that my camp experiences contributed to my love of nature and the outdoors. I am happy that I was able to attend a camp with Christian values and we are so blessed that this camp still exists so that our children can attend as well. We love Camp Skyline!
