At Camp Skyline we offer a variety of internships that counselors can complete while they are on our summer staff! We have had counselors complete their internships, practicums, and shadow hours all while being camp counselors!
We have had interns majoring in:
I completed my internship last summer on the media team! I majored in Communications with a focus in Public Relations and Advertising. I gained all kinds of experience as an intern at camp! On the media team, I didn’t serve as a traditional counselor but more as a camp photographer. Which means I lived in a cabin with the rest of the media team, but we were not directly responsible for any campers nor did we work in activities. I gained experience in photography, videography, editing, advertising, social media management, blog writing, and so much more! It set me up perfectly for my internship the following semester as well as for my job now as the Assistant Director!
Evan also completed her internship last summer! She is a Hospitality Management major with a concentration in event planning. She had worked at camp in the past as a counselor and knew she wanted to return as a head counselor but she was required to have an internship as well, so she completed her internship at camp WHILE being a head counselor! Evan played a vital role in all the event planning at camp! She shadowed our program director and was able to practice the many things she learned in class like communicating with outside vendors, planning based on the target audience, and being able to think quickly under pressure to make sure an event runs smoothly.
Our counselors double as activity instructors during our six activity periods. So most college majors can find a way to gain experience at camp! There’s opportunity for education majors to gain experience working with children of all ages! As well as teach children in several activities catering to a variety of learning styles! We also work with our counselors to make sure they are gaining the experience in their specific area of interest and meet all their internship requirements!
Rachel is the Assistant Director and manages the Camp Skyline media outlets. Whether it is Instagram, Facebook,Youtube, Tiktok, The Roost, or Waldo, she is the girl behind the scenes. Rachel worked in the camp kitchen in high school and served as an intern on the media team her senior year of college. She graduated from Jacksonville State University in 2023 with a B.A. in Public Relations and Advertising. Then she moved back to the mountain, her hometown, and started the best job ever!
