When I was a Skyline camper a favorite campfire song was, “Smile, Don’t Ya Know God Loves You”. Campfires at Skyline are about reflecting on the theme of the day and taking time to slow down, sing, and enjoying the night air before bedtime. So, I wanted to share this song’s lyrics and I hope to teach it to all this summer.
Smile, don’t ya know God loves you.
Come to think of it I love you too.
Take the time to smile at someone and before you’re through, Someone will be smiling back at you.
Are you afraid of the night?
Does darkness give you a a fright?
Well if you’re afraid you don’t realize you’re always in His sight. If you’re afraid of the night.
Smile, don’t ya know God loves you.
Come to think of it I love you too.
Take the time to smile at someone and before you’re through, Someone will be smiling back at you.
Did you ever think that you were alone?
Did you ever think that you were alone?
Well if you ever thought that you were alone, you didn’t realize that He was home. If you ever thought that you were alone.
Smile, don’t ya know God loves you.
Come to think of it I love you too.
Take the time to smile at someone and before you’re through, Someone will be smiling back at you.
Did you ever think you lost your last friend?
Did you ever think you lost your last friend?
Well if you ever thought you lost your friend, just look up there and think again. If you every thought you lost your last friend.
Smile, don’t ya know God loves you.
Come to think of it I love you too.
Take the time to smile at someone and before you’re through, Someone will be smiling back at you.
I think what I like most about this song is how sweet and simple it is and how easy it is to apply it to our own life. We are all afraid of something and we all feel alone at times, but if we just put our faith in God all will be alright. He’s got you! And your challenge today (and everyday) is to go out in the world and smile at someone. See how quickly they smile back! Happy Spring!
